The Fake News Assignment provides students with an opportunity to develop media literacy skills in the context of learning about ongoing NAFTA/USMCA negations. Students deepen their knowledge of NAFTA/USMCA and its stakeholders, learn to identify and analyze bias in news sources and develop skills in persuasive writing. In this assignment, students use one real news article to 1) create a biased news story and 2) write a short exposé identifying the bias in their news stories and discuss techniques used to create it.
